Literacy Narrative Reflection

I chose to include these three reading responses because I think they were the most crucial to the development of my research project. Throughout them it is easy to see how my inquiry based question evolved and found a niche. In addition, the dialog between my authors really helped me make the conversation I was entering visible and set the stage for me to writing my literature review later in the semester.

I was really nervous about my first paper, but excited at the same time. It was on a subject that I am the foremost expert on; myself. While contextualizing my own literacy progression I got to put meaning into many things that happened in my life and ultimately that made me appreciate those experiences on a new level. I enjoyed the reminiscing the most because I reflect on my past all the time.

The reading that stood out to me the most was Shitty First Drafts. I used the methods presented in that article on every paper and I think I had very good results. I'll continue using this approach in the future because it makes the act of writing a paper much less stressful for me.

Over this semester I have progressed as a reader and a writer. At the beginning of the semester I had trouble contextualizing the readings and understanding the meanings of them. I overcame these struggles when we learned about intertextuality and reading between the lines with a purpose. A new strategy I learned was to find out why the author wrote what they did. This was especially important to me because I felt more connected with the author and their work which caused me to be more interested. I think I have a better grasp on how my literary process works and the trajectory I'm heading in, but I can still improve.
